Interview #4

Delun gave me the following interview.

I did not edit any of his opinions. All opinions are welcome here.

How did you come to produce Alien-based fan art?
What do you find interesting and/or fascinating in the Alien universe?

I was inspired by the unique design of HR Giger’s works.
I find their sleek and boney body structure very cool and organic-looking.
Dark and evil, untamed nature.

Which movie in the Alien series is your favorite?

None in particular. I prefer the Predator series.

Did you play any of the “Aliens versus Predator” games?
If you did, what did you think of them?

Predators are the coolest.

What would you want in a new Alien-based role-playing game?

Flying insect-like xenomorphs. Exploding aliens.

What would you want in a new Alien-based first-person shooter?

An army of predators.

I would like to thank Delun for allowing me to post his work on this blog.

Breaking with the Past

If you read this blog for more than a few minutes, you will notice something strange: Gamers expect the Predator creature to have a role in their future Alien-based games.

Clearly, previous “Aliens versus Predator” games have made their mark and have shaped many expectations. This is no surprise.

While I did not enjoy Rebellion’s game, I still remember fondly Monolith’s “Aliens versus Predator 2″. (I must admit I played Rebellion’s game after Monolith’s game. Clearly, it was not the best way to approach the first “Aliens versus Predator”.)

Now, we know the Predator creature won’t be part of Gearbox or Obsidian’s games. I guess both developers will take the time to prepare gamers for this different direction.

It’s a bit ironical…when you ask people what they want, without conditions or limitations, they often ask for more of something they enjoyed in the past. I guess the same tendency pushes Hollywood to produce a sequel at the first sign of popular demand.

Obviously, being a shameless elitist, I ask for something new, original, pure and true. I want Gearbox and Obsidian to take the Alien universe back to its origin. I want their games to wash away the derivative creations that followed Alien and Aliens.

I must be a fan.

Interview #3

Fabreeze gave me the following interview, enjoy!

How did you come to produce Alien-based fan art?
What do you find interesting and/or fascinating in the Alien universe?

I’ve always liked the Alien series and I’ve always found the Alien creature to be superbly designed.
Although the design changed over time (it now appears more animal than before), I still find it inspiring and that’s why I produced fan art based on Alien.

Which movie in the Alien series is your favorite?

The first, the second and the third. (equally)

Did you play any of the “Aliens versus Predator” games?
If you did, what did you think of them?

I played an Alien versus Predator arcade video game, it was in 2D…and it was great!
You could choose between 2 human characters, 2 Predator characters and fight xenomorphs in various environments.
I think matching the Alien creature with the Predator creature was a nice idea, a perfect pair of enemies.

What would you want in a new Alien-based role-playing game?

I don’t know, I wouldn’t know how to set a CRPG into the Alien universe…maybe something with strategy, as in StarCraft.

What would you want in a new Alien-based first-person shooter?

I would want it to be faithful to the Alien universe, in terms of atmosphere.

Fan Art Friday #3 (very late)

Every Friday, I will post a piece of artwork inspired by the original work of HR Giger and by the Alien franchise.

This week, I am very pleased to introduce you to the art of Fabreeze.

The following piece is titled “alien warrior”.

alien warrior by Fabreeze

Again, due to the limiting form factor of this blog, this is only a crop of the actual piece.

What you see is a photo of a “model sculpt of a alien warrior made in cold porcelain, hand painted and wooden base” [sic].

Please visit Fabreeze’s Home Page for more great work by this artist.

I would like to thank Fabreeze for allowing me to post his work on this blog.
